New York Fishing - Montauk
If you are looking for some excellent New York fishing, the Long Island fishing area is a very good choice. At Long Island's tip, you will find Montauk Point. On Montauk Point, the oldest lighthouse in New York State is located. You can fish on the rocks below the light house and catch a wide variety of fish. The point is a glacial cliff with very deep water and you won't be disappointed with the fishing here. In fact any where on Montauk Bay you will find excellent opportunities to reel in some big fish. Both the north and south sides of the bay, the fish are plentiful and hungry.
They have a very long season, ranging from March through December. The best of the season is the spring and fall months, but the summer months offer good fishing as well. Montauk does have some nice bass fishing during the summer months, many other species can be had during this time also. As for the rest of the season, fish species include tuna, marlin, cod, mackerel, striped bass, white shark, flounder and many more. Many of the species run in massive schools, so catching them will be easier. You choose the season, but come on and visit, the fishing is great. Talk to some of the local New York fisherman or some of the folks at the bait shops, they will give you some good pointers on the best times, places, and baits to use. Also, there are many New York fishing charters that you can use if you want to go out on the water, bigger fish can generally be had. Don't forget to get your fishing license and check the marine forcast before you go.
